Accounting Manager

Wipfli LLP is assisting Steigerwaldt Land Services in Tomahawk, WI with the recruitment process for an Accounting Manager (due to an impending retirement). This position is an integral member of their dedicated team of 50+ forestry and land management professionals who deliver comprehensive land consulting services to clients across the upper Midwest. Reporting to the COO, this is position is responsible for the general accounting activities of their various entities which include consulting services by foresters, appraisers, surveyors, mapping and database specialists, arborists, real estate brokers and attorneys. Responsibilities include:

  • General Accounting for all business transactions according to GAAP (AP, AR, GL, intercompany transfers, reconciliations, etc.) – oversight and conduct
  • Producing timely and accurate financial reports (standard and custom) for business decision making
  • Working with department directors on budgeting and variance analysis
  • Fixed asset accounting, tax accounting (sales, use, property, payroll)
  • Supervising employees in the accounting department, oversight of outsourced payroll
  • Maintaining computerized accounting systems

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent education/training
  • Minimum of 5 years related accounting management work experience
  • Experience with Sage accounting and Crystal Reports is a plus

GIS Analyst

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. is a full service forestry, GIS, real estate, surveying, and appraisal company with offices in Tomahawk and Hayward, Wisconsin, and Negaunee, Michigan.  We are currently looking to fill a GIS Analyst position requiring previous experience and strong analytic skills.  The GIS Analyst will work as an integral team member as part of the Steigerwaldt Analysis and Technology Solutions department.  This group provides a variety of real estate, natural resource, and forestry-related analysis, inventory, data management, and mapping and technical solutions services to internal and external clients.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • ArcGIS Desktop skills are required
  • ArcGIS Online skills preferred
  • Mobile GIS and data application skills preferred
  • Experience in ArcGIS Server, Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, SQL, or Python preferred
  • GIS spatial analytical skills required
  • Ability to integrate GIS and GPS applications and data
  • Ability to conduct mapping data research and secure and apply GIS data from different geographic regions
  • Microsoft Office experience is required
  • Ability to work with large datasets, maintain data integrity, data migration, data organization, product summary reports, and statistics
  • Ability to produce professional, high quality, GIS-based hard copy and digital cartographic products
  • Ability to interpret and work with digital aerial imagery and satellite data
  • Knowledgeable in real estate and general land survey applications
  • Attention to detail and an analytic mindset
  • Interest in field applications and ability to assist in field data collection support
  • Experience with mobile field hardware and emerging applications

In addition to meeting the key competency expectations above, successful applicants would have the ability to communicate verbally and in written form with management, support staff, and clients.  The ability to maintain a high level of work and project organization is necessary for this position as well.  Strong candidates will have interest and experience in research, with the eagerness to learn new technology and applications.

Location: Position will be located at our Tomahawk, Wisconsin, office.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Travel: Although an office-based position, brief travel assignments may be required.  Additionally, travel between office locations on multi-day trips would be required on an infrequent basis.

Forest Analyst/GIS Operations Lead

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. is a full service forestry, GIS, real estate, surveying, and appraisal company with offices in Tomahawk and Hayward, Wisconsin, and Negaunee, Michigan.  We are currently seeking to fill one full-time Forest Analyst/GIS Operations Lead position based out of the Tomahawk office.  This is considered an established professional position, requiring previous inventory, analysis, and GIS experience, or applicable education.  This position would serve as a key member of the Steigerwaldt Analysis and Technology Solutions department.  This group provides a variety of real estate, natural resource, and forestry-related analysis, inventory, data management, and mapping and technical solutions services to internal and external clients.

Responsibilities include GIS project management, forest inventory processing, growth and yield, timber valuation, and assisting with timber resource analysis projects.  This is a diverse position, with opportunities for growth in many fields relating to forest inventory and analysis.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or related Forest Sciences, with graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in forest inventory and analysis
  • Inventory leadership experience involving managing logistics, production, and data quality
  • Experience with forest inventory and GPS navigation software and hardware
  • Experience with ESRI ArcMap 10.x GIS, AGOL and ArcGIS Pro software, and other GIS platforms
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Project management experience
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with an emphasis on technical report writing
  • Desire to develop a career in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings with clients and other professionals
  • Enthusiastic learner, with a strong interest in continually developing forest analytics skills

  • Experienced in SQL, Python, and R database management and development
  • Timber valuation and appraisal
  • Forest biometrics and timber inventory workup
  • Forest modeling, including USDA Forest Service Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS)
  • Querying and using Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) and Timber Products Output (TPO) data
  • Experience with drones for data collection

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Professional Land Surveyor licensed in Michigan
  • Additional Professional Land Surveyor licenses in other states is a plus
  • Desire to develop a career in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business
  • Minimum of two years of experience in surveying with an emphasis on experience in traditional boundary surveying
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and office with other professionals
  • Experience in forestry, real estate, and/or land acquisition is beneficial.
