Assistant Analyst / Staff Forester

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. is currently looking to fill one Assistant Analyst/Staff Forester position based out of the Tomahawk office. This is considered an entry-level position, although previous professional experience is helpful.

Responsibilities include playing a large role in forest inventories in remote regions of the country, assisting with analytical work with forest inventory data, and assisting with forestry field work, including cruising and marking.  This is a diverse position, with opportunities for growth in many fields relating to forest inventory and analysis.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from an accredited forestry academic institution
  • Ability to travel for work on out-of-state forest inventories in remote locations up to 75 percent of the time, with travel for most of the 2017 summer field season likely
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals
  • Willingness to spend significant time in remote field locations and work in inclement weather and challenging conditions
  • Physically fit and able to work in adverse terrain
  • Experience with forest inventory work, with an aptitude for leading and managing forest inventories
  • Experience with forest inventory and GPS navigation software and hardware
  • Experience with ESRI ArcMap 10.x GIS software and GIS mapping analysis
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with a large emphasis on technical report writing
  • Competent with Microsoft Office software, with a large emphasis on Microsoft Excel
  • Desire to develop a career as both a forester and forest analyst in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business
  • Enthusiastic learner, with a strong interest in continually developing forest analytics skills
  • Interest in involvement in professional organizations to further education and develop working relationships with other professional foresters
  • A team player who is self-confident, respectful, curious, flexible, and able to work with other professionals in a growing, successful, and respected business
  • Current valid driver’s license

Additional experiences useful to the position but not required include:

  • Timber valuation and appraisal
  • Forest biometrics
  • Forest modeling, including USDA Forest Service Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS)
  • Experience with drones for data collection
  • Experience using Access
  • Collecting and using Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) and Timber Products Output (TPO) data
  • A personal vehicle suitable for forestry work (mileage is reimbursed)

Following the successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees receive a full benefit package that includes health insurance, vacation, paid holidays, 401K, and profit sharing. Salaries commensurate with experience.

Forest Analyst / Inventory Lead

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. is currently looking to fill one Forest Analyst/Inventory Lead position based out of the Tomahawk office. This is considered an established professional position, requiring previous inventory and analysis experience.

Responsibilities include managing forest inventories in remote regions of the country, analytical work with forest inventory data, and assisting with timber resource analysis projects. This is a diverse position, with opportunities for growth in many fields relating to forest inventory and analysis.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or related Forest Sciences
  • Ability to travel and manage out-of-state forest inventories in remote locations up to 50-75 percent of the time
  • Inventory leadership experience involving managing logistics, production, and data quality
  • Minimum of two years of experience in forest inventory and analysis
  • Experience with forest inventory and GPS navigation software and hardware
  • Physically fit and able to work in adverse terrain
  • Experience with ESRI ArcMap 10.x GIS software and GIS mapping and analysis
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with a large emphasis on technical report writing
  • In-depth experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Desire to develop a career in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals
  • Enthusiastic learner, with a strong interest in continually developing forest analytics skills

Survey Technician / Field Surveyor

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. is  currently looking to fill one full-time Survey Technician / Field Surveyor position in the Tomahawk office.  This is considered an entry-level position, though previous professional experience is preferred.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Associate degree in Surveying, Civil Technician, or a related field is ideal, but other backgrounds would be considered
  • Desire to develop a career in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business, with future opportunities for professional advancement
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and office with other professionals
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of RTK GPS and robotic total station equipment applications is desired
  • Competent with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to travel and conduct overnight work away from home from time to time
  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Interest in involvement in professional organizations to further education and develop working relationships with other professionals
  • A team player who is respectful, flexible, curious, and self-confident
