Limited Term Staff Forester

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc., is currently seeking one one limited term staff forester or forestry technician position based out of the Tomahawk office. This is considered an entry-level position, although previous professional experience is helpful.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in forestry or Associates of Applied Science degree in forestry
  • Desire to develop a career as a professional forester in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business
  • Familiarity with Lake States forest management and timber harvest administration
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Competent with Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with GPS data collecting and processing
  • Experience with ESRI ArcView 10.x GIS software and GIS mapping and data collection principles
  • Ability to travel and conduct overnight work away from the Tomahawk office – travel up to 25 to 50 percent
  • Current valid driver’s license with personal vehicle suitable for forestry work (mileage is reimbursed)
  • Interest in involvement in professional organizations to further education and develop working relationships with other professional foresters
  • A team player who is self-confident, respectful, curious, flexible, and able to work with other professionals in a growing, successful, and respected business

Salary commensurate with experience.

Field Foreman

Steigerwaldt Tree Farms, LLC, is currently looking to fill a field foreman position, based out of Tomahawk, Wisconsin. This person will be the primary field lead on an operating Christmas tree farm, assisting the tree farm manager and assistant manager with day-to-day field operations.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Ability to work in a diverse position as a field crew leader, supervising Christmas tree farming operations
  • Ability to work independently in varied field settings
  • Ability and interest in safely operating tree farm equipment
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions planting, fertilizing, shearing, harvesting, treating insect and disease problems, cutting boughs
  • A team player who is confident, respectful, curious, flexible, and is able to teach, train, coach, motivate, and supervise farm personnel, setting the pace for production and safety
  • Ability to work as a technician with Steigerwaldt Land Services in the “off-season” and periodically during the year with job duties that include assisting foresters or surveyors in field tasks, marking timber, timber inventory, and timber sale setup; interest in learning GPS data collection and processing
  • Ability and interest in obtaining a commercial driver’s license and pesticide applicators license
  • Ability to assist managing our retail Christmas tree operations for up to four consecutive weeks in Florida and Mississippi
  • Ability and willingness to work six to seven days per week in peak harvest season from late October through mid December
  • Utilizes excellent people skills and customer service techniques
  • Competency with Microsoft Office software preferred, but not necessary
  • Current valid driver’s license. Commercial driver’s license preferred, but not immediately required

Assistant Tree Farm Manager

Steigerwaldt Tree Farms, LLC, is currently looking to fill an assistant tree farm manager position, based out of Tomahawk, Wisconsin. This person will assist in managing the Christmas tree farms and the wholesale and retail sales operations.

  • Ability to work in a diverse position with primary responsibility to support the tree farm manager in work planning and execution, field supervision, budget and tracking assistance, and oversight of farm operations and sales
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions planting, fertilizing, shearing, harvesting, treating insect and disease problems, cutting boughs
  • A team player who is confident, respectful, curious, flexible, and coordinates well with other professionals in managerial duties
  • Ability to work as a technician with Steigerwaldt Land Services in the “off-season” and periodically during the year with job duties that include assisting foresters or surveyors in field tasks, marking timber, timber inventory, and timber sale setup; interest in learning GPS data collection and processing
  • Ability and interest in operating equipment associated with a tree farm

Summer Forestry Interns

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc., is currently looking to fill multiple summer internship forestry positions based from the Tomahawk and Hayward office locations, with significant time spent out of state conducting forest inventory. These are considered entry-level internship positions, although previous professional experience is helpful.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:

  • Ability to travel overnight and/or out-of-state for 75 to 100 percent of the time
  • Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals
  • Willingness to spend significant time in remote field locations and work in inclement weather and challenging conditions
  • A team player who is confident, respectful, curious, flexible, and able to work with other professionals in a fast-paced consulting business
  • Working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry or Associates of Applied Science degree in forestry
  • Desire to develop a career as a professional forester in a diverse consulting business
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Competent with Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with GPS data collecting and processing

Successful applicants identified for inventory projects will likely be trained for a two- to three-week period at our Tomahawk office. Following training, successful applicants will likely travel to Alaska to conduct forest inventory. All gear and living expenses while in Alaska will be supplied by Steigerwaldt. Plot work in remote settings will be conducted in teams.

Internship opportunity may begin during the spring semester if schedule allows.
